Siriki Dembele gave Oxford United an early lead but Ben Knight's equaliser just before the hour mark secured a 1-1 draw for Cambridge United at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, a result that keeps Oxford sixth in the League One table.
Neil Harris's side had been looking to end a poor run of form in Oxfordshire, having lost their last six matches in the county. They started brightly and were rewarded in the 14th minute. Mark Harris drove forward and found Dembele, who finished calmly for his second goal in as many games. The lead was almost doubled shortly after when Mark Harris unleashed a long-range effort, but it flew wide.

They now have 11 points from their opening six fixtures, placing them four points behind leaders Bradford City.
Manager Neil Harris acknowledged the challenge his team faced. "We were out to put to an end a dismal record in Oxfordshire following six successive defeats," he told reporters after the match. The game was also notable for an early injury blow, as midfielder Jamie McDonnell was forced off with a hamstring issue after just eight minutes, replaced by Louie Sibley. Cameron Brannagan was the only Oxford player booked by referee Thomas Kirk.
