Chris Gunter will remain with Oxford United during the upcoming international break. The club confirmed on Monday that their Assistant Head Coach has stepped away from his role as Wales Under-18s Head Coach to focus on his full-time position at the Kassam Stadium.
"Gunter has stepped away from his role as Wales Under-18s Head Coach to focus on his full-time position with Oxford United and is fully committed to his role with the Club," the club said in a statement. The former Reading defender, who serves under former Wales teammate Aaron Ramsey, will now be available to support first-team preparations as Oxford look to build on a solid start to the League One season.
Assistant Coach Tom Hutton will also remain with the squad during the international window. The club thanked the Football Association of Wales for their understanding and wished the Wales Under-18s well for their upcoming fixtures.
Oxford United currently sit sixth in the table with 11 points from six matches. The squad's recent form reads three wins, one draw and one loss from the last five outings. The team's next fixture is a home match against Cambridge United on Saturday, 21 September. The coaching staff have set a target for the squad in the upcoming training period.
