Oxford United fans will encounter new road closures and limits on parking near Kassam Stadium due to a temporary traffic regulation. The county council has implemented this to assist with the club's plans for handling traffic and reducing congestion on game days, with the team currently sitting 7th in League One on 15 points after 8 games.
This order, identified as S26-015, begins on October 26 and is authorized to last for 18 months. It applies to Grenoble Road and the roads around its four roundabouts, stretching between Robert Robinson Avenue and Guelder Road. During matches and other approved events, stopping to wait, load, or unload will be prohibited along Grenoble Road and at its intersections. Parking zones normally available on the northern side of the road will be out of use.
Details of the traffic order
Motorists attempting to enter closed intersections will be guided to the specified roundabouts and instructed to come back on the other side of the road. Temporary lane closures on nearby streets could create one-way systems, and in significant operational or emergency situations, Grenoble Road might be fully shut. The council said the aim is to maintain east-west traffic flow. Signage will indicate the times and locations of these restrictions.
The designated diversion will follow the A4074 Henley Road, A4142 Eastern By-Pass, and B480 Watlington Road. Exemptions apply for emergency vehicles, official traffic management activities, and reaching properties that can only be accessed from the closed roads.
The order was issued on October 19 and becomes active the next week. The initial home fixture impacted is against Wigan Athletic, who visit on Saturday 17 October with the visitors currently 24th in the table. Oxford United head into this period unbeaten in their last five matches, a run of two wins and three draws, and are just four points behind leaders Plymouth. Their most recent result was a 1-1 draw away at Mansfield Town on Thursday 15 October, where Luka Lynch scored their goal. Top scorer Mark Harris, who has four goals this season, will be looking to add to his tally when the new traffic measures are in force.
