Oxford United scored three times in the final quarter of an hour to secure a 3-0 victory over Burton Albion on Saturday. The win lifts them to fifth in the League One table with 10 points from their opening five matches.
Siriki Dembele broke the deadlock after 76 minutes, finishing a move that had seen the hosts press for an opener. Louie Sibley doubled the advantage in the 90th minute, assisted by Dembele, before Gatlin O'Donkor completed the scoring deep into stoppage time. The result extends Oxford's recent form to three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five outings.
Head coach Aaron Ramsey praised his side's character. "It was a different test but one we had to stand up to so full credit to the boys," he said. Ramsey added that his players showed a "resilience and relentlessness to keep creating opportunities and take the game to Burton, especially in the second half."
The performance followed a 4-0 thrashing of Leicester City the previous weekend. Oxford have now scored 12 goals this season while conceding six. They sit just three points behind leaders Sheffield Wednesday.
Attention now turns to a top-of-the-table clash at home to Cambridge United on Saturday, 19 September. Cambridge currently occupy fourth place, one spot above Oxford.
