Karl Robinson was spotted leaving Peterborough United's London Road stadium on Tuesday afternoon, sparking immediate speculation about his potential return to management. The sighting comes as several League One clubs, including Peterborough, are searching for new bosses.
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire reported the development, stating it "understands former MK Dons and Oxford manager Karl Robinson was seen leaving London Road yesterday afternoon". Robinson, 46, has been out of work since being sacked by Salford City in June following their play-off final defeat to Notts County.
Managerial vacancies
Peterborough United and Wycombe Wanderers have both recently parted company with their managers, creating two immediate vacancies in the third tier. Peterborough dismissed Luke Williams after seven games this season, while Wycombe sacked Michael Duff after just five matches. League leaders Bradford City are also without a permanent manager after Graham Alexander's departure.
Robinson's nearly five-year spell at Oxford United, which ended in February 2023, makes him a familiar figure in the division. He led the U's to the League One play-off final in the 2019/20 season, where they lost 2-1 to Wycombe Wanderers. Oxford reached the play-offs again the following year but were beaten in the semi-finals by Blackpool.
Oxford's current standing
His former club currently sit 10th in League One with 11 points from six games, following a 1-1 draw with Cambridge United in their last outing. Their next fixture is away at Notts County on October 10, a club Robinson faced in his final match with Salford.
No formal talks between Robinson and any club have been confirmed. His appearance at Peterborough's ground, however, places him firmly in the frame as clubs consider their options. Oxford United fans can follow the team's progress, including the upcoming trip to face 20th-placed Notts County, via our fixtures page.
