Oxford United winger Stan Mills is drawing Championship interest just weeks after starring in a relegation fight. Preston North End are reportedly circling the 22-year-old, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke.
What’s the latest on Stan Mills?
Mills spent last season in League One after Oxford’s relegation, yet still won both the Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards. He scored three goals and made four assists in 43 Championship games before the drop, excelling under manager Matt Bloomfield despite the club’s struggles. Mills joined from Everton in January 2025 and had earlier spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at the Kassam Stadium before a serious knee injury.
Why Preston are after Mills
Preston North End are one of several Championship clubs eyeing Mills, whose father Danny Mills played for England and Manchester City. The Us are currently in Spain for pre-season training, but Mills stayed behind due to illness and fitness issues. Oxford are under pressure to keep hold of key players after being hit with a temporary transfer embargo last week - they can’t register new players until financial issues are resolved, meaning no incoming signings until January.
Where Oxford stand now
League standing: 22nd in the Championship with 47 points from 46 games, 11 wins, 14 draws and 21 losses, recent form LWLLW. The Us have conceded 59 goals this season and sit 48 points adrift of leaders Coventry. Their next fixture is against Huddersfield at home on 9 February 2027, with Mills’ future hanging in the balance as the January window approaches.
