Oxford United are looking to strengthen their squad after suffering relegation from the Championship last season, finishing 22nd in the table. The U's are reportedly interested in signing Abubakr Barry, a 25-year-old midfielder who has been playing for FK Austria Wien. Barry has one year left on his contract in Vienna and has been a key player for the Violets, playing 28 times in the Austrian Bundesliga last term and scoring four goals and bagging four assists. However, Barry's price has been driven up since Oxford's apparent rejected bid, making it tough for the club to compete with the finances and allure of Championship football with Stoke City and even Europa League action with Red Bull Salzburg. Stoke City have reportedly submitted a bid worth €3 million for Barry's services, while Red Bull Salzburg are bidding between €3 and €4 million. With the prospect of Barry remaining at his current club becoming increasingly unlikely, it remains to be seen whether Oxford United will be able to sign the Gambian midfielder.
