Ex-Oxford United Striker Praises Aaron Ramsey’s Leadership

Former Oxford United striker Dean Saunders has spoken about the key advantages that Aaron Ramsey brings to his new managerial role with the club, despite facing challenges such as a temporary transfer embargo.

Ramsey was appointed as the permanent head coach of Oxford in June, replacing Matt Bloomfield. The U's are returning to League One after two years in the Championship and are currently under a transfer ban that began in early July, making it difficult for Ramsey to strengthen his squad.

Saunders, who played 52 times for Oxford and scored 20 goals, is optimistic about Ramsey’s chances given his experience and winning mentality. “It’s not an ideal situation for Ramsey having a transfer embargo in his first permanent managerial role, but it’ll certainly test his character, which is good for a young manager,” Saunders said.

The club has shown commitment to keeping its current squad intact over the summer, with most players being Championship standard. This suggests that Ramsey will have a solid foundation to work with and build upon in League One.

“Oxford and Ramsey both seem committed to keeping as much of the current squad as possible over the summer, which is certainly a positive sign for him,” Saunders added.

Ramsey’s experience at the highest level of football could be invaluable to his new team. “Aaron has never experienced a transfer window as a manager before, which I think is another advantage for both him and Oxford,” Saunders noted.
